Description: Casa Hogar Santa Rosa de Lima has been operating for more than 9 years offering comprehensive care to abandoned elderly people with dementia and other cognitive disabilities. It is the only facility of its kind in the city of Iquitos, with almost half a million inhabitants. The home needs to improve its facilities to adapt it to the needs of accessibility and well-being of the residents.

The reconstruction is co-funded by the University of Washington, the Peruvian government’s Centre for Technological, Biomedical and Environmental Research and the Parentes Foundation. The changes to the built environment will allow for a better quality of care and will impact on the improvement of the mental health and well-being of the residents, their caregivers, and other workers at the home.

Scope: Currently the home provides care for 15 residents, with the improvements to the facilities it is planned to increase care to 30 people.
